The IC Centre for Governance commemorated the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel by hosting the 6th Sardar Patel Lecture on Governance.
The lecture was delivered by Shri Ajit Doval, National Security Advisor, and presided over by Dr. Harivansh, Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha.
In his welcome address, Shri Prabhat Kumar, Former Cabinet Secretary and the first Governor of Jharkhand, highlighted emerging governance narratives at national and global levels. Dr. Harivansh, in his presidential remarks, reflected on Sardar Patel’s role in unifying India and establishing the foundations of modern governance, while appreciating the ongoing work of the IC Centre for Governance.

In his keynote address, Shri Ajit Doval emphasized that governance is central to nation-building, national security, and societal aspirations. He noted that weak institutions and poor governance have historically led to the decline of states, while visionary leadership like Sardar Patel ensured India’s unity and stability.
He outlined India’s transformational progress over the past decade, including stronger national security, reduced left-wing extremism, tribal infrastructure development, financial inclusion, digital governance, GST reforms, and expanded healthcare access under Ayushman Bharat. He also underlined the dual nature of technology enhancing transparency and delivery, while introducing risks like cyber threats and AI-based challenges.
He concluded that achieving “Viksit Bharat” requires modern governance systems, trained personnel, institutional convergence, and a whole-of-government approach, echoing Sardar Patel’s vision of a strong, integrated, and prosperous India.
The event began with a welcome by Shri Mahesh Kapoor, Former Advisor, Planning Commission, and concluded with a vote of thanks by Shri Shanti Narain, Former Member (Traffic), Railway Board.
